A long-running monitoring program carried out by the University of Tasmania (UTAS), School of Biological Sciences. The purpose is to monitor the spread of DFT1 and DFT2, which are the two variations of the Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) is a transmittable cancer among Tasmanian Devils that is nearly 100% fatal. It was first observed in 1996, estimated to first develop in 1986, and has caused the population of Devils to reduce by 80%. The Tasmanian Devil is currently listed as an endangered species.
